Virgin Falls Pocket Wilderness

The Virgin Falls Pocket Wilderness (VFPW) is a 317-acre tract that was set aside by Bowater, Inc., for public use as a wilderness area. Although the main attraction in the pocket wilderness is Virgin Falls, the journey to the falls includes many beauty spots and points of interest. The state has designated this area a state natural area, although Bowater is still the legal property owner.

Because of its many unique features, the pocket wilderness is a very popular destination for weekend backpacking and hiking. All camping is primitive, although there are established fire rings in a few locations, and the trail is described as moderately difficult. It is almost 5 miles one-way to reach Virgin Falls along this trail, so either get an early start, or be prepared to camp somewhere along the way.

If you would like to see more of the VFPW, continue on the virtual tour to the next stop.
